India House, the 1930 Grade II* listed building on Aldwych, presented a rare and complex brief: transform 2,800 m² of redundant flat roofing into a usable commercial roof terrace without compromising the building's structural integrity or its Grade II* status.
The architect specified a full AliDeck system for the deck — requiring fire-rated, non-combustible boarding that could be laid at the low falls mandated by the drainage design. AliDeck Junior Plus boards, specified across the whole deck area, gave the design team a product with documented BBA certification, full NBS clause support, and a span capacity that eliminated the need for additional sub-structure.
The AliDrain deck-level piped system was integrated to manage the significant water volumes expected on a roof deck of this scale. Integrated linear channels and a fully documented drainage calculation were provided as part of the Right Spec Guarantee™, removing risk from the drainage design entirely.
AliRail glass balustrade panels completed the specification — providing compliant guarding without interrupting views across central London. The full system was co-ordinated by AliDeck's technical team across a six-week programme.
